Hair transplant is one of the best ways to achieve fuller, healthier, and natural-looking hair. However, you will have to know all the dos and don’ts of going through this procedure. Let’s read about some of them.

The Dos of Hair Transplant Aftercare

After a hair transplant, the hair follicles need at least 2 to 3 months to develop an initial hair lining. Follow these after-care instructions to aid the growth of new hair:

Follow Your Doctor’s Advice

Your surgeon might prescribe you painkillers or ask you to apply a sterile solution 2-3 times a day. Follow their advice carefully to avoid any complications later on.

If you live in Melbourne, get your treatment from a reputable hair transplant clinic Melbourne for quality services and after-care instructions.

Keep Your Scalp Clean

After a hair transplant, bacteria can enter the wound sites and cause infection. To prevent this, keep your scalp clean. Gentle washing will remove scabs, blood, or any other debris that might hinder the natural healing process. Remember to keep your scalp moisturized to prevent dryness.

Protect Your Scalp from the Sun

During the healing period, your scalp skin will be extra sensitive to UV rays. Limit outdoor time for the first few weeks and then apply a broad-spectrum sunscreen. Wear a loose-fitted hat or carry an umbrella to protect your scalp from direct sunlight.

Eat a Balanced Diet

Eating a balanced diet is one of the most effective ways to accelerate scalp heating. Add healthy fats and proteins to your diet. Moreover, stay hydrated to avoid facing any complications.

Be Patient

Hair growth takes time. Stay patient and keep following the aftercare instructions to get the best results.

The Don’ts of Hair Transplant Aftercare

Here’s what you should not do after getting a hair transplant:

Don’t Sleep on Your Tummy

One of the most common mistakes people make after getting a hair transplant is sleeping on their tummy or side. For the first few weeks, it is recommended to sleep on your back with a slightly inclined head. This will help prevent pressure on the wound site.

Don’t Scratch Your Scalp

Scratching or picking at your scalp can damage the grafts and increase the wound healing time. Ask your surgeon for the best way to seek relief from itching. Your doctor might recommend a moisturizer for instant relief.

Don’t Go Swimming

The chlorine in pool water can damage healing grafts. It can also cause infections and make the healing process painful.

Avoid Strenuous Activities

Strenuous exercise and activities can increase blood flow to the scalp. This can lead to redness and swelling, making you uncomfortable. Avoid exercise and other activities for at least a week after the procedure.

Avoid Using Harsh Products

Harsh chemicals found in shampoos, conditioners, and dyes can irritate your scalp and damage growing hair follicles. Your scalp needs time to heal. Gently wash your hair with lukewarm water and dry your scalp to avoid irritating the wound sites.

Don’t Wear Headbands

Avoid wearing tight hats, headbands, and hair ties to avoid putting pressure on your wound sites.
